On June 3, 2016 we recieved an adopt-iversary update from Krystal who gave a FURever home to a sweet kitty named Molly!
"Six years ago today, I adopted Molly. She is the nicest, most sweet and loving cat ever. She is just so happy to just be in your presence. When we first met Molly she was so quiet and timid. But once she was taken out and my dad got to hold her....she started to purr. I knew immediately, this is MY cat and it's been wonderful ever since. She even loves my older cat Kiyo, …
Confession, now named Riley, arrived at HSHA in January 2015 when her owner was being evicted from his apartment and could no longer meet the needs of this sweet girl. A year ago on May 18, 2015 this pretty girl went to her FURever home. Yesterday her new owners, Nick & Brigid, sent the best one year update about this wonderful dog that has changed their lives for the better.
“One year ago today, my girlfriend and I rescued Riley. When we first met Riley she was a sweet, loving dog …
Sweet Dulce was just a year old when she arrived to HSHA. Her owner had been evicted from their apartment and left without taking this precious girl along. Instead, the landlord of the property surrendered Dulce which ended up being in the best interest of this buff colored beauty. In just three short months this girl attracted a new owner willing to give her a home of her own. Recently, Dulce’s owner sent in an update about her transition from the shelter to her comfortable FURever …
Sugar Maple was the sweetest of cats with a beautiful mix of grey and buff colored coat. She came to the shelter in September 2015 when her owner could no longer properly care for her and her five other brothers and sisters. She patiently waited for seven months until the exciting day when her new owner discovered her peering through her kennel bars. It was love at first sight!
This weekend we received an update on Sugar Maple from her new home and owner. The McWilliams Family wrote, & …
Polly Puddles came to HSHA on February 23. It was a cold, rainy day and she was found as a stray in one of the worst areas of Harrisburg City. As a young seven month old pit bull terrier mix, Polly was full of energy and personality. Her rough start on the streets didn’t break her spirit. In need of an adopter willing to teach her basic obedience and manners as well as provide regular exercise would be necessary. On April 8 Polly’s dream came true and she landed a FURever home of …

The toughest of felines often have the softest hearts, says Devon Geduldig of Mechanicsburg.
After moving into her apartment and living there for a few months, she decided it was time to take on a roommate – a fury feline named Spotts.
The moment she walked into the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Geduldig had a connection with the 9-year-old cat. When she …
Recently, adopter Chantel Maffettone wrote in to provide an update on Rudolph.
"He's doing great! We go to the bark park a few times a week, and he gets along with every person and every dog he meets there. My fiance and I initially agreed that Ru wouldn't be allowed on the furniture, but that didn't last long! He snuggles with us every night when we watch tv, and though he doesn't start out on our bed at night, he's there when I wake up every morning. His manners are getting better every …
An update on Jacinta from Megan Glass, Kennel Manager:
Jacinta is a chocolate lab, retriever mix. At the age of three years old she was brought into our shelter as a stray. She waited patiently for six months until her FURever family found her at HSHA. A recent phone call to check on Jacinta's progress and transition into her new home was riddled with happy tails. Jacinta's dad, said that she is now sitting before crossing the street and goes for two walks a day. She had a good check up at the …
Jezebel, now Raymesha (aka: Mesha, Meshe) is near 11 years old I believe and has been with me since approx. one. I think I was told she was found walking along the road out your way. I initially was only fostering but immediately adopted her when I saw that face! See I let the girl just picked out any for me. It was just her and I until 8 years ago I brought home a dog off the street (Border/Pit), then we were joined about two years ago by a tuxedo I took from the …
