Growing older doesn't mean growing lonelier. The Mature Pets for Mature People program offers senior citizens 60 years or older the opportunity to adopt a companion animal free of charge.
Pets who are chosen for the program are at least five years old and spayed/neutered. Additionally, if a senior would rather adopt a pet that is younger (between the ages of 6 months and up to 5 years), the adoption fee will be reduced.
Senior citizens interested in adopting a pet through the Mature Pets for Mature People program are invited to complete an application at any time. Applications can be obtained by calling HSHA at 717-564-3320.

I am a young, handsome Pit Bull Terrier mix that was found as a stray. I am super happy and friendly, but everything seems new to me. I'm not sure how to walk on a leash and I want to be close to you, so I jump up and put my paws on you. For that reason, any kids in my new home should be at least 10 years old. The staff and volunteers are working on teaching me commands, but my new family should be ready to continue that training and even take me to obedience lessons. I like other dogs, so if you have a dog in your home, that should be fine. I can also live with dog savvy cats. So, come on in to meet me, Dekker. I'll be super happy to see you!
Lemon Sorbet Monet
I'm sweet and refreshing, a cool cat with a warm heart. Maybe I should have been named Lemony Snicket, since my life has been a series of unfortunate events. It's all in the past and hey, if life gives you lemons, make lemonade (or lemon sorbet)! I'm ready for a new life with someone who will love me deeply and give me a comfortable and fun home. I like being called Lemon because I'm full of zest! I was timid when I first came, but now I'm always bursting with love and affection for everyone. I have a great time in the playroom chasing wand toys and feather toys, and oh do I LOVE chasing that laser dot! That wasn't the case a short while ago, though. I was afraid in the playroom and meowed to go back to my cage, but now I'm confident, brave and happy. If you adopt me, I'll be a pillar of warmth in your life, always ready for a snuggle and a head bunt, or even a kiss on the nose! I'm used to living with other cats, but I could be OK as your only feline friend. Since I'm still very young, only about a year old, I'll need a home with someone who has time to play and interact with me. So put your green juice down and push that smoothie aside! Get ready for the health benefits of Lemon! I'm never a sourpuss and will always cheer you up and help you feel better. Come in soon and get ready for some Sour Power...and Pucker Power...ask for the inky-furred feline, Lemon Sorbet Monet!
