What: We may be experiencing a summer heat wave but the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area (HSHA) is celebrating like its Christmas Day! HSHA’s annual Christmas in July Adopt-a-Thon features a reduced adoption rate of $20 for all dogs and $10 for cats, kittens and critters. The reduced adoption rate still includes spay/neuter surgery, microchip and basic vaccines!
Who: The mission of HSHA is to build a better community for pets and people through compassion, protection, education and collaboration. The organization accepts homeless animals regardless of their breed, age, medical condition or behavioral condition and takes in thousands of homeless animals each year.
Why: Christmas in July is held in an effort to encourage the community to consider adoption and ease typical summer overcrowding in the shelter. Each summer, hundreds of homeless pets, especially cats and kittens, find their way to HSHA.
Who should attend: Any individual or family looking for a new furry family member. You can enjoy the Adopt-a-Thon from the comfort of your couch or stop by to see the pets available – either option gets you the same discount, and all applications are timestamped and viewed in the order they are received (both online and paper applications).
When: Saturday, July 23rd. Any approved online adoption applications received between 10am and 7pm that day is eligible for the reduced adoption rate. Alternatively, guests may visit HSHA between 11am-6pm and fill out an adoption application.
Where: Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111.

The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a better community for pets and people through compassion, protection, education and collaboration. HSHA accepts homeless animals regardless of their breed, age, medical condition, or behavioral condition. However, HSHA does not euthanize adoptable animals due to lack of space or length of stay. The shelter assists over 10,000 animals a year through its residential care and adoption program, low-cost veterinary clinics and Veterinary Resource Center, pet food programs, and counseling services.
