Contact Your Municipality

HSHA’s primary goal is to provide outstanding care to the homeless and needy animals of our local community, which is why we offer services to local municipalities. Through these services, HSHA takes in the stray animals from our surrounding municipalities and gives them the care they need and deserve.

However, HSHA is only able to take in stray animals from municipalities who contract with our organization and agree to provide adequate reimbursement for the animals’ basic care. If HSHA took animals from all municipalities irrespective of a contract, HSHA would be forced to euthanize a large amount of adoptable animals because we cannot afford to feed and house stray animals without receiving reimbursement for direct animal care costs.

HSHA cannot guarantee care for stray animals brought in from municipalities that do not contract with us. In turn, those animals may face an uncertain fate. In areas that do not participate with HSHA, it is crucial that caring citizens contact their municipality to express the importance of participating with a local animal shelter. By participating, these municipalities will guarantee care for stray animals found in their area.

TO CONTACT YOUR LOCAL MUNICIPALITY TO URGE THEM TO PARTICIPATE, HSHA SUGGESTS USING THIS LETTER. Please contact HSHA at 717.564.3320 with questions about municipality contracts or contacting your local municipality.
