What: Pitbulls make up a large percentage of HSHA’s adoptable dog population so, we invite all animal lovers (and their leashed canine pals of all breeds) each year to join us for a free, fun-filled day celebrating breed equality.  Visitors can enjoy vendors for pets and owners, food and drink, kids activities by donation such as pumpkin painting an “adopt a stuffed dog,” raffle baskets, and a canine costume contest.  The most popular activity is usually the “Kiss-a-Bull Photo Booth” where guests may make a donation to grab a kiss from a pittie as well as a photo opportunity!

Who:  The mission of HSHA is to build a better community for pets and people through compassion, protection, education and collaboration.  The organization accepts homeless animals regardless of their breed, age, medical condition or behavioral condition and takes in thousands of homeless animals each year.

Why: Pitbull-type dogs make up a large percentage of HSHA’s adoptable dog population.  So each October, in honor of Pit Bull Awareness month, we invite the community to the shelter to celebrate this often misunderstood breed.

Who should attend:  This event is fun for the whole family. Leashed dogs are welcome outside.  However, dogs are not permitted inside the shelter (please plan accordingly!).

When:  Saturday, October 15th from 11am to 3pm. This event is rain or shine, but rain may cause us to have to alter some of our plans!

Where:  Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111.

The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a better community for pets and people through compassion, protection, education and collaboration.  HSHA accepts homeless animals regardless of their breed, age, medical condition, or behavioral condition.  However, HSHA does not euthanize adoptable animals due to lack of space or length of stay.  The shelter assists over 10,000 animals a year through its residential care and adoption program, low-cost veterinary clinics and Veterinary Resource Center, pet food programs, and counseling services.  Learn more at humanesocietyhbg.org.
