Report Cruelty

Dear Friends:

Thank you for your longtime support of the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area.

I am writing today to inform you that our longtime executive director, Amy Kaunas, will be departing her role. We are proud to announce Director of Operations Aspasia Yeager will serve as the interim executive director while a national search is launched.

During Amy’s tenure, she led a massive effort to rescue, save and find forever homes for thousands of animals. Her leadership during the pandemic helped continue our important mission even in the most difficult of times. We’re proud that while our intakes return to pre-pandemic levels, euthanasia dropped to its lowest rate in four years in 2022.

Aspasia’s previous leadership experience at area shelters, and subsequent seven years of service at HSHA, leaves her well-positioned to continue our mission of service to the pets and people of Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties. She will oversee a seamless transition in oversight of our daily operations and programs.

The board now begins its national search for an executive director who will build on the tremendous progress and growth of HSHA. We will make it our top priority to identify a candidate who has extensive experience and a tremendous track record of service to the care of animals.

Once again, we thank you for your support and all you have done for the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area. We rely solely on the goodwill of our donors and will continue working hard to earn your trust and support.

Sincerely,
George Groves
HSHA Board President
