At HSHA alone, we increased the number of animals in our care by 15% compared to 2024, with an average of 73 animals arriving weekly, nearly half of whom came to us as strays. We increased lifesaving, holding a 95% live release rate for the year, completing another full year as a no-kill shelter.
We also expanded our work to engage with the community and to help keep local pets happy, healthy, and in their loving homes.
Our medical teams increased the number of spay and neuter surgeries by 13% and pet wellness exams by 50% compared to 2024. We were able to provide 1,586 free vaccines to family pets and distributed 30,000 pounds of free pet food, offering assistance to families in need.
Volunteers gave selflessly of their time, clocking 26,456 hours supporting our work in Harrisburg, and community members took our HSHA dogs out for 489 Shelter Skip Days.
As an organization, the Brandywine Valley SPCA once again set new records for saving the lives of homeless pets and supporting pet families of all of the communities we serve, thanks to your support. Across our entire footprint, spanning Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and Washington, D.C., we increased the number of animals in our care by 33% compared to 2024, with an average of 75 animals arriving daily, more than half of whom came to us as strays.
Despite the challenges that come with serving as one of the only open-access shelters in our Pennsylvania regions, as well as the only open-access organization for the entire state of Delaware and Washington, D.C., we maintained our no-kill status, saving lives and bringing joy to countless homes.
We cannot do this work alone. It takes a true community effort to make all of this possible. The impact in 2025 and all that’s ahead in 2026 happens thanks to you – our generous donors, sponsors, our kind community, and our dedicated staff and volunteers. You play an important role and share in every life we save. Thank you.
