From July 6 to July 31, BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Summer National “Empty the Shelters” will occur at more than 335 shelters in 44 states with pets available for adoption for just $50 or less, including the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area (HSHA).

Central Penn Business Journal has selected Amy Kaunas, Executive Director, Humane Society of Harrisburg Area) as a 2023 Women of Influence honoree.Women of Influence honors high-achieving women for their career accomplishments. These women are selected based on their professional experience, community involvement and commitment to mentoring. The honorees were selected by the publisher and editors of the Central Penn Business Journal.

March has arrived and so has the start of March Muttness 2023! This bracket-style tournament includes dozens of teams, or shelters, from across the country and will benefit homeless pets from Hawaii to New England. March 1 marks the start of Round One: All Tails In.  Humane Society of Harrisburg Area is participating in March Muttness for the first time.

The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area (HSHA) invites the community to take the plunge for homeless pets at the 2023 Penguin Plunge on Sunday, January 1st at Noon (registration starts at 10:00am) on the beach at City Island.   Hundreds are expected to be in attendance, either to jump into the icy waters of the Susquehanna River or to cheer on the “Plungers.”   

Every winter, the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area (HSHA) hosts a special adoption event in hopes of getting as many homeless animals as possible a home for the holidays. HSHA is one of more than 275 participating shelters across the country joining the BISSELL Pet Foundation this holiday season with its “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope event”, in this lifesaving effort to take deserving pets from kennels to the couches of loving homes.
